When the global pandemic surfaced in India, there was an immediate lockdown announced followed by times of uncertainty and unprecedented disruption that the country had never witnessed before. The Chemical business in India strived to ensure that the country does not fall short of chemicals that are known to be effective in preventing the spread of COVID-19.The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and World Health Organization (WHO) have prescribed the use of Sodium Hypochlorite and Calcium Hypochlorite for effective disinfection. Even while most companies went into lockdown and significant logistic challenges came into existence, we, as a renowned chemicals supplier, wholeheartedly catered to the Central and State Government’s requirements, from every corner of the country.

Aditya Birla Chemicals has been one of India’s largest suppliers of the above-mentioned products, sodium hypochlorite and calcium hypochlorite. They are required for disinfection and sanitisation of public places, roads, offices, and residential areas. This was supplied in significant quantities to the Central Health Departments of most State Governments in India. Throughout the crisis, the company also supplied products and provided great support to municipal corporations and OEMs in India by supplying water treatment products for drinking water, clarification and disinfection, and hygiene applications.

Talking solely about water treatment in India, we, as one of the renowned water treatment chemicals suppliers in the world, associated our Chlor Alkali division with municipalities across 20+ states and union territories, catering to 1200 cities/ towns and 1.2 lakh villages for disinfection solutions. The company fulfils 35% of India’s hygiene and sanitation needs through its disinfection product range. Moreover, its water clarification solution treats 20+ billion cubic meters of water annually, across 23 Indian states and union territories, serving ~40 major cities (including key metros) and 118 municipal corporations. In these difficult times, the company has worked relentlessly to ensure Indian masses have access to pure drinking water and disinfection solutions.

While referring to disinfectants, this Chemical division of the Aditya Birla Group in India has also left no stone unturned, when it comes to providing sodium hypochlorite solutions to semi-urban and rural areas in the vicinity of their manufacturing locations, nearby villages, Panchayats and Government offices, hospitals, and health centres. The company distributed approximately 1500kg RensaTM High Strength Bleach and conducted weekly sanitization across 13 nearby villages in BB Puram (AP). Over 10,500 litres of Sodium Hypochlorite was distributed for municipalities around Veraval (Gujarat) and Nadga (MP). It also supported the sanitization of villages near Renukoot (UP). So, a huge contribution of over 80 MT of stable bleaching powder and more than 6MT of sodium hypochlorite to districts across Jharkhand and Odisha from Rehla was completed, and disinfection of a nearby vicinity at Ganjam (Odisha), Halol (Gujarat) and Rishra was conducted. Not only that, 6 villages have been disinfected in and around Jagdishpur (UP), benefiting ~30,000 people.
