Our unit was recognised for a ground water restoration, by adopting rainwater harvesting and artificial ground water table recharging. The Unit has undertaken several Water conservation projects as it is an imperative need to augment valuable groundwater resources. Artificial recharge and roof top rainwater harvesting has been the primary focus to revive the precious resource.
With support from Mr. A.R. Shivakumar (Scientist, Karnataka State Council for Science and Technology) for technical advisory, multiple steps were taken including an average rainfall study at certain designated areas, site selection, a preliminary & topography & soil strata study, designing a recharging/injection well design, and site construction and soil levelling.
The efforts resulted in water conservation of 2,86,687 cubic metre a year. This was across surface runoff water harvesting through a check dam, roof top harvesting, multiple ground water recharging bore-wells and injection wells.
